Published by Katja Mihurko Poniz on

The second session in CEEPUS Network Women Writers in History in this academic year was a talk with Marija Ott Franolić, feminist scholar, literary critic, essayist and editor from Zagreb, Croatia. Marija is an independent scholar, literary critic and editor interested in women’s writing and reading and promoting children’s reading in the digital world. Her PhD on women’s diaries and the history of women’s everyday life was published in 2016 (Dnevnik ustremljen nedostižnom), and in 2017 she edited the diaries of poet and literary historian Divna Zečević (Život kao voda hlapi). She regularly publishes essays on her blog Tekstovnica as well as many other Croatian literary magazines and websites. Lately her theoretical research is focused on the relationship between reading, empathy and critical thinking, with a particular interest in early literacy. She uses her theoretical knowledge to organize practical reading workshops and book clubs in libraries, bookshops, kindergartens and elementary schools. She has also hosted several literary workshops and book clubs aimed at women readers.
